Still Hurting? You Deserve Better Than Band-Aid Care

Generic PT, ignored root causes, and insurance-driven shortcuts leave too many active Durham residents stuck in a cycle of pain and frustration.

Cookie-Cutter Treatment Plans

When every patient gets the same protocol, nobody gets the results they need. Generic exercises and rushed appointments fail the active adults and athletes who need a truly individualized approach.

Pain That Keeps Coming Back

Treating symptoms without addressing root causes means your neck pain, back pain, or injury keeps returning — keeping you out of the gym, off the trail, and away from the activities you love.

No Clear Path to Recovery

Without a specific plan tied to your goals — whether that's returning to running, lifting, or playing with your kids — recovery feels uncertain, slow, and discouraging.

Your Questions, Answered

Do I need a doctor's referral to start physical therapy?

No referral is required. North Carolina is a direct access state, which means you can come directly to The Obstacle Doc without seeing a physician first. Simply book a free discovery call and we'll get you started right away.

Do you accept health insurance?

We are a cash-based physical therapy practice, which means we operate outside of insurance networks — giving your therapist the freedom to build a plan around your goals, not an insurer's restrictions. We provide a detailed superbill after each visit so you can submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients are reimbursed a significant portion of their costs.

What does a typical session look like at The Obstacle Doc?

Every session — including follow-ups — is a full 60 minutes of one-on-one time with your Doctor of Physical Therapy. There are no aides, no shared appointments, and no shortcuts. Your therapist will use a combination of hands-on manual therapy, targeted therapeutic exercise, and education-based coaching tailored to your specific condition and performance goals.
